West Ham set to dump Moses, Emenike

The Nigerian duo of Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike may be declared surplus to requirement in West Ham if the plans of the premiership side ahead next season are anything to go by.

West Ham co-chairman, David Sullivan revealed early this week that the club was set to break the banks in a bid to sign some unnamed strikers.

Sullivan who spoke to Sky Sports not only confirmed that the Champions League hopefuls had made a move for an attacker, but also that they were planning another high-profile move later this week.

“We’ve put a bid for €30m for a player, and other bids will be going in,” Sullivan began. “We’re going to make a £20-25m for a player in England, maybe later this week.

“So, whatever happens, we intend to bring a top striker in.”

Speculation was rife as to the identity of the hitmen referred to by Sullivan, with Liverpool’s Belgian flop Christian Benteke and Olympique de Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi—another Belgian—the two names prominently linked with a switch to East London.

Even if West Ham misses out of  Champions League football, it’s clear that the Hammers were beginning to operate in a new stratosphere.

Moves for Benteke and Batshuayi would certainly suggest that the Hammers were willing to put their money where their mouth is and realise their ambitions in the transfer market.

Analysts believed Moses and Emenike would be shown the exit door once West Ham goes on the strikers shopping spree, especially against the backdrop of the fact that the dou failed to make much impact in the club this term.

It would be noted that Emenike, 29, featured 13 times in the EPL for the club this term, but failed to contribute a goal or an assist—although he did find the net twice during the Hammers’ run to the FA Cup semi-final.

Moses on his part contended with injury and fitness concerns, managing just one goal and two assists in 20 EPL showings.
